Winterfest Battle of The Bands

Evening folks

Kilmarnock music promoter David Hanvey is organising his next major event at Dirty Martinis. David has been promoting gigs in Kilmarnock for a good while now under the name of My First Music Promotions and is currently booking gigs in Dirty Martini’s and Jolly’s Sports Bar.  Over the coming months he has The Dykeenies, Jon Windle(Little Man Tate), Mechanical Smile and Athos all playing live.

His next major event is Jolly’s Winterfest which is going to be a cracker. The festival will run for 3 days from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th of February. The first act announced for the festival is Steve Craddock of Ocean Colour Scene fame which I would say is a major coup for a small venue like Dirty Martinis 2 more headline acts are yet to be announced but on the basis of the first announcement I fully expect them to be just as good. They will be backed up by a multitude of acts from around the country.

David is offering up and coming and unsigned acts the chance to win a place on the bill supporting one of the headliners in the form of good old fashion Battle of The Bands. The norm now a days is for BOTB’s to be a money making exercise for promoters and venues. Not David he’s decided to go against the grain and have the competition purely based on the music and no influence will be given based on ticket sales, votes, or anything like that. He has also stated that all bands who enter won’t be left empty handed and he’ll do his very best to cover expenses although he can’t guarentee a fee for each band. So with all that in mind it seems like a great oppurtunity for unsigned and up and coming acts to support the established acts lined up.

So onto the Battle of The Bands, over the last three weeks in January(14th, 21st and 28th) Dirty Martinis will be holding BOTB gigs with 5 acts battling out each week for a slot on the lineup. Each band or artist gets 30 minutes to win over the judges and hopefully secure their place on the bill at Jolly’s Winterfest.

The Indiebendent is delighted to be able to announce that I will be on the judging panel alongside a few other impartial faces from around Ayrshire.

So if you think you’d like to enter and play at one of the gigs in January you  can email David on myfirstmusic@live.co.uk or alternatively mail me on the usual email address ben@indiebendent.co.uk  and i’ll pass on your details about your band and where we could hear your music
